Government of South Australia

South Australia is a globally competitive destination for resources investment, underpinned by world-class mineral endowment, stable regulation and a clear ambition to lead the energy transition.

South Australia is Australia’s global copper investment capital, home to two-thirds of Australia’s known copper reserves and a leading uranium producer, both key to the global emissions reduction agenda.

As countries work towards lower-emissions steelmaking, South Australia’s vast magnetite resources, exceeding 19 billion tonnes, makes it a potential long-term supplier of high-quality feedstock for green iron production.

South Australia is the epicentre of Australia’s uranium industry, hosting all of the nation’s operating mines and accounting for all uranium exports. It is home to 89% of Australia’s known uranium resources including the world’s largest known single uranium deposit and hosts Australia’s largest in-situ recovery operations. For more than 37 years, South Australian and Australian regulators have maintained trusted and internationally recognised oversight of uranium mining and exports, supporting the responsible supply of uranium for low-carbon nuclear generation.

The state has substantial gold and silver reserves and investment ready critical mineral projects including graphite, halloysite-kaolin and high purity alumina and is also highly prospective for nickel, platinum group elements, cobalt, rare earth elements, lithium, magnesium and manganese.

The state is also emerging as a leader in battery materials, low-carbon fuels, renewable energy and green industrial development. South Australia is also at the forefront of Australia's emerging natural hydrogen and helium sector, with favourable geology and growing exploration activity.

South Australia offers investors access to large-scale, long-life development opportunities.

The South Australian Government works closely with investors to facilitate projects through coordinated case management, streamlined government engagement and connections across industry, infrastructure and research ecosystems.

South Australia is where resources, energy and innovation converge to create the materials and technologies powering the future.
