Andrea Vaccari is Product Stewardship Director at Freeport-McMoRan Inc., where she works across the copper value chain with operations, suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders to improve the sustainability aspects of the company’s products. 

This work includes addressing the challenge of Responsible Sourcing both internally and externally. Andrea was previously Director of ICA’s Health, Environment and Sustainable Development (HESD) Program, creating and executing strategies to support copper’s contribution to sustainable development. This role included leading the development of the Copper Mark responsible copper production program, a platform dedicated to advancing sustainability the mining industry.

During her tenure at Rio Tinto, Andrea served as Global Quality Manager for Rio Tinto Minerals where she was responsible for the organization’s Quality Program and team, including the company’s production and finished product laboratories. In her first two roles at Rio Tinto Minerals, she led the implementation of Rio Tinto Minerals’ Sustainable Development strategy across all facets of the business, from mine to market.

Andrea holds a Joint Honors Degree, B.E.S., in Environment and Resource Studies and Physical Geography from the University of Waterloo, Canada. She is a Mining Topic Expert for the Responsible Jewelry Council, the Mining & Metals subject editor for the International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment, and the Vice Chair of the International Copper Association Material Stewardship Council.
