Emily Iona Stewart

Emily Stewart is the Head of Policy and EU Relations for Global Witness’ Transition Minerals campaign, where she leads advocacy and policy engagement on the social, environmental, and governance challenges associated with the extraction of critical minerals essential for the global energy transition. 

Her work focuses on ensuring that the shift to a low-carbon economy is both equitable and accountable, with the benefits and risks of mineral development shared fairly among communities, governments, and industry.

Emily has significant experience working across political and stakeholder groups to develop policies on sustainable supply chains, biofuels, land rights, environmental governance, and responsible resource development. At Global Witness, she advocates for greater transparency, accountability, and community participation throughout critical mineral value chains, ensuring that the energy transition does not come at the expense of human rights, environmental protection, or social justice.

A frequent speaker at international conferences and policy forums, Emily brings a unique perspective on the intersection of geopolitics, climate action, critical mineral supply chains, and responsible mining.
