George Pirie, Ontario’s Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth and MPP for Timmins since 2022, is a strong advocate for northern Ontario. As former Minister of Mines, he helped position the province as a global leader in critical minerals, advancing economic opportunities across the North. In his current role, he champions northern industries' growth, creating conditions needed for new investment, and further positioning northern Ontario as a competitive player in world markets.
A proud northern Ontarian, Pirie spent 35 years in the mining sector, including 17 in senior leadership roles in Canada and internationally. He also served on key industry boards, bringing deep expertise to public life.
He previously served as Mayor of Timmins (2018–2022), continuing to champion jobs, resource development, and long-term prosperity for Ontario’s North.
